Boss Baby: The Family Business Review: The Boss is Back!

The boss is back baby! The Boss Baby: The Family Business brings the same energy, hilarious animation, and secret missions we’ve come to love.

Now adults, Theodore Templeton, and his estranged brother take a magical formula that transforms them into babies for 48 hours. Together, they must now go undercover to prevent an evil genius from turning fellow toddlers into monstrous brats.

While this film has a lot of references to the first film, you can easily follow along without feeling lost. Most of all the original characters are back and director Tom McGrath stays true to the original concept but adds a new, equally adventurous storyline. The acting is wonderful in a way that is realistic. Alec Baldwin nails Ted’s sound effects and even Amy Sedaris’s squealing as Tina is hilarious.

New additions Jeff Goldblum and Amy Sedaris give the film some new charm as the villain and the new Boss Baby. Goldblum just does what he does best as Dr. Armstrong, the head of the prestigious Acorn Center for Advanced Childhood. Goldblum isn’t really doing anything new here and he doesn’t have to. Sedaris is a great addition to the film as well and brings charm and hilarity as Tina, Tim’s (now voiced by James Marsden) youngest. Alec Baldwin is the big star returning and stills provide plenty of laughs. Ariana Greenblatt, who seems to be everywhere these days, provides the heart of the movie as Tabitha, Tim’s oldest.

At times, the movie does tend to go overboard with its presentation of parenthood, as Tim deems himself a failure whenever anyone in his family experiences a moment of sadness, but the general message is in the right place. I love the overall message of this movie: that it’s important to focus on what matters most – love and family.

Overall, The Boss Baby: The Family Business is a fun, family film full of action, clever jokes, and a stellar cast. The movie shows us that it’s ok to grow up, but don’t grow apart from the ones you love. The Boss Baby: The Family Business is the perfect movie for families to bond over this summer.

The Boss Baby: The Family Business is now playing in theaters on streaming exclusively on Peacock.
