F9 Review: A Rollercoaster of a Summer Blockbuster

Returning director Justin Lin rediscovers the Fast Saga’s exciting and over-the-top antics, creating one hell of a rollercoaster blockbuster.

Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) is living a quiet life off the grid with Letty (Michelle Rodriquez) and his son, but they know that danger always lurks just over the peaceful horizon. This time, that threat forces Dom to confront his past sins to save those he loves most. His crew soon comes together to stop a world-shattering plot by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered — Dom’s forsaken brother (John Cena).

The Fast saga is back with a vengeance, but you need to see it to believe it. Every installment of this franchise deserves is meant to be seen on the big screen and the ninth film is no exception. Lin is a master at his craft and has successfully surpassed each movie from previous franchise directors with the thrilling, suspenseful, edge of your seat action set pieces that get bigger and better with each movie.

F9 puts Vin Diesel and John Cena together as brothers and it is just perfect. They played their roles so well and you really don’t know where things are gonna go with them. Like I said before, the action sequences in these movies get bigger, better, and crazier with each movie and F9 has some pretty wild ones – whether it’s driving on a falling bridge or literally driving and crashing a car into a satellite.

John Cena is one good redemption story for this movie, and he gave such charisma to the typical antihero troupe with much chagrin to villainy. The classic face-to-face shots between him and Diesel in one particular scene really got the audiences fired up for their big showdown. Jordana Brewster returns as Mia after sitting out the last film and she was definitely missed, but, the moment fans have been waiting for since the trailer dropped is the return of Han (played by Sung Kang). It was so nice having him back and his reunion with everyone will leave you in tears.

F9 is one hell of a summer blockbuster and manages to still be entertaining. These are the types of movies theaters were made for and with two more movies on the way, who knows what will happen next. Oh, and be sure to stay till the end of the credits for a delicious post-credit scene.

F9 is now playing only in theaters.
