Ghostbusters Afterlife Review: A Fun, Nostalgia Trip

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is finally here and is a full-on nostalgia for fans who grew up with the original movies while also providing something for a new generation of fans.

When a single mother (Carrie Coon) and her two children (McKenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard) move to a new town, they soon discover they have a connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Old life has been breathed from the great beyond. Ghostbuster has always stood the test of time and this new film does a great job at incorporating the original cast while setting the stage for the new cast to continue on the Ghostbuster legacy. Afterlife delivers something all age groups can enjoy and has a healthy mix of comedy and scares. Now, is it better than the original 80s film? Now, but it earns its place in the trilogy.

This movie does rely quite a bit on nostalgia, but that’s not exactly a bad thing. I mean, it’s called fanfare for a reason, right? I honestly cannot see how they could this movie without linking it to the original as opposed to its own identity. Fans have been wanting a legit sequel for over 30 years and now it has finally arrived. The cast was absolutely suburb. McKenna Grace is a rising star and perfectly captures the exact tone of Spengler which would make the late Harold Ramis very proud.

Afterlife was the perfect send-off for not only Harold Ramis but for the original cast who still can rock those jumpsuits and proton packs. Paul Rudd is great in this movie but I do wish that he got more screentime.

I can’t say much more without getting into spoiler territory, but Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the sequel we have been waiting for and delivers on everything they promised and more. New fans will enjoy all the new characters while old fans will have a fun time going down memory lane. Also, stay till the very end cause there are two post-credit scenes that you won’t want to miss.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is now playing in theaters.
