Missing Review: An Intense Thrill Ride That Will Leave You Speechless

Critic Rating
4.5/5

Missing is a superior sequel and a brilliant thriller that will have you on edge.

When her mother disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend, June’s (Storm Reid) search for answers is hindered by international red tape. Stuck thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, June creatively uses all the latest technology at her fingertips to try and find her before it’s too late. However, as she digs ever deeper, her digital sleuthing soon raises more questions than answers.

Missing is a truly incredible and intense thrill ride that was brilliantly crafted and has so many unexpected twists and turns throughout its runtime. Following in the footsteps of 2018’s Searching, Missing doesn’t try to outdo the first film, but it uses all of the suspense and drama from that movie and triples its intensity to it.

What really stuck out for me was that the more Storm Reid’s character June goes down that rabbit hole trying to find the whereabouts of her mom, the darker things get as the story starts to unravel. There is also no calmness for the characters as everything is in panic and the intensity is sky-high so there really isn’t any time to relax and compose yourself.

The plot twist, which leads into the third act, was a little predictable but also mind-blowing as they did it in a way that you could see it coming but also still managed to be shocking. It’s also quite darker and more disturbing than the trailers made it out to be.

Storm Reid was absolutely brilliant in this film as she was so believable you could feel the fear, intensity, and emotions that her character was feeling throughout the movie. June is definitely a character that the audience will root for and feel for her.

Overall, Missing was scary, insane, and nothing like the trailers made it out to be. It doesn’t try to outdo Searching, that the first film was just a fluke. Missing will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end with twist after twist. The movie has its moments where it can be predictable, but still just as surprisingly shocking.
