Movies Review: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

Godzilla and Kong are back on a new adventure that is full of fun and feral action.

Godzilla and the almighty Kong face a colossal threat hidden deep within the planet, challenging their very existence and the survival of the human race.

The latest installment in the series is purely for entertainment and it exceeded my expectations. The film has a good, fast pace and moves the plot towards what everyone wants to see without complex twists. The humans are a significant part of the story, but much less annoying than in previous movies. They provide comic relief, help establish the archetype, and bring the chaotic tale together. The movie has plenty of monsters and feels like a powered-up version of Jurassic World, delivering the anime-level goodness that the series is known for.

The graphical effects are impressive, with sleek patterns, textures, and designs that add realism to the characters. Mini-Kong steals the show, providing both comedy and pertinence to the story. The action scenes are the highlight of the movie, with both Godzilla and Kong getting plenty of time to show off their moves in impressive displays of giant MMA matches. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire excelled at delivering a spectacle that is exciting, fun, and has good choreography with all the adrenaline-fueled emotions you want in an action film.

Overall, it may not be as impressive as Godzilla: Minus OneGodzilla vs Kong: The New Empire gave me hope that someone finally understands what we want in a monster movie and how to bring it to life. The story can be a bit eye-rolling at times, with some of the antics being quite ridiculous and convenient. Nonetheless, the movie offers some of the best-choreographed monster fights to date in this series, which is like watching anime-level goodness at its finest. The pacing of the film is engaging and keeps those with short attention spans happy, provided that you know what you’re getting yourself into. The pace does indeed hurt the film to some degree, particularly with Godzilla’s inclusion and how the battles are chopped up to levels that can be a bit annoying. However, overall, I was very satisfied with the movie, and I recommend that you catch it in theaters to experience all the fun it has to offer. Although it may not be as artistic as some other versions, and the story may still need work, it’s a fun and thrilling ride filled with feral fun.
