Ron’s Gone Wrong Review: A Heartfelt Story of Friendship That Will Make You Laugh and Cry

Zach Galifianakis and Jack Dylan Grazer’s new movie Ron’s Gone Wrong is a kids’ movie with big messages for all ages.

Barney (Jack Dylan Grazer) is a socially awkward schoolboy who receives a robot named Ron (Zach Galifianakis)  — a walking, talking, digitally connected device that’s supposed to be his best friend. Barney is excited to finally have his own robot — until his new toy starts to hilariously malfunction, drawing the attention of a shady executive who wants to protect his company’s stock price at all costs.

There is a lot to like about this movie. It is very hilarious, even adults will find themselves chuckling. Writers Peter Baynham and Sarah Smith did a great job at creating humorous situations and dialogue that are clever and witty. Ron the B’Bot is basically a small child and his interpretation of certain things hit just the right mark creating some laugh-out-loud moments.

The script itself was written very cleverly, just jumping far enough in time that it avoided calling out any current social media app or trend, but also showed the downside of the whole social media addiction. It definitely touched on the dangers of being too connected in a way that today’s younger generation can understand and relate to.

But, the whole movie wouldn’t have worked if it didn’t have the likeability of Ron and Zach Galifianakis was just perfect and hits the sweet spot of wide-eyed innocence and genuine friendship with just his voice, along with his natural comedic talents. The design of Ron is simple which allows for some hilarious moments with his occasionally failing graphics and basic egg shape with Png-era graphics.

Overall, Ron’s Gone Wrong is gonna be the most fun your kids will have watching a movie this year. It’s a weird, quirky family comedy that pushes all the right buttons and also asks some big questions about growing in the age of social media. Ron’s Gone Wrong offers a heartfelt story of friendship that will make you laugh and cry.
