Halloween Kills Review: Michael Myers’ Return Is Brutal and Thrilling

Evil has returned and is back with a vengeance in Halloween Kills and delivers even more terror.

The nightmare isn’t over as unstoppable killer Michael Myers escapes from Laurie Strode’s (Jamie Lee Curtis) trap to continue his ritual bloodbath. Injured and taken to the hospital, Laurie fights through the pain as she inspires residents of Haddonfield, Ill., to rise up against Myers. Taking matters into their own hands, the Strode women and other survivors form a vigilante mob to hunt down Michael and end his reign of terror once and for all.

I just want to start off by saying WOW, Halloween Kills was a terrifying thrill ride that kept my heart pounding right from the opening credits. Now, I know there might be quite a few people who dislike this new movie but I have to say this exceeded my expectations. Halloween Kills digs a little deeper with a carefully plotted look into trauma and how people react to situations, which helps make the film more realistic.

Michael Myers is back and even deadlier than before. Michael is on a whole other level in this film, and the movie definitely reinforces what we’ve already known about him (I won’t say more than that, you’ll just have to watch and see). There are moments where things look like it’s about to go off the rails, and might not give you what you were expecting to see (mainly because they are setting the stage for the third and final film) but there is a clear vision here, not only are they reinforcing the most haunting aspects of Myers character but also fixing the mistakes from previous films and giving the audience a look at how his impact has thrown the community into chaos.

It was such a crazy nostalgic trip seeing all the returning cast members from the original Halloween and they did not miss a beat. Jamie Lee Curtis and Anthony Michael Hall were both mesmerizing in every scene they appeared in. Granted, Curtis was in the hospital for the majority of the film but she provided such an emotional performance. Judy Greer and Andi Matichak were just as phenomenal as in the first film.

Overall, Halloween Kills is a story about fear and how it changes people. The film builds slowly in the beginning but once it gets going it’s a nonstop terrifying rollercoaster. Hold onto your seat cause you aren’t ready for this brutal, relentless, and exciting film. And if you think you know what’s going to happen, I guarantee you have no idea what’s coming.

Halloween Kills is now playing in theaters and streaming only on Peacock.
