As superhero sequels go, Wonder Woman 1984 is pretty epic, but it’s not without its flaws.

Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) lives quietly among mortals in the vibrant, sleek 1980s ‑‑ an era of excess driven by the pursuit of having it all. Though she’s come into her full powers, she maintains a low profile by curating ancient artifacts and only performing heroic acts incognito. But soon, Diana will have to muster all of her strength, wisdom, and courage as she finds herself squaring off against Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and the Cheetah (Kristen Wigg), a villainess who possesses superhuman strength and agility.

Now, I’m not the only one who has been waiting for this movie. I loved the first Wonder Woman film, not just because Gal Gadot was breathtaking in the title role but by its brilliant execution (which the DCEU was clearly lacking) and that was enough to get me excited for the sequel. And now that I’ve finally gotten to watch it, thanks to HBO Max, I’m so happy. With a runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes, the movie goes by so fast you don’t even realize it until the credits start to roll. And that is what a good movie should: make you sit back, relax, and forget all your worries. 

Wonder Woman 1984 opens with two really cool action sequences, then the film starts to slow down to develop its characters and story which then results in more action. Gal Gadot once again proves that she was meant for this role and shines throughout the film and it was great having Chris Pine back as Steve Trevor. Their chemistry on and off-screen really helps make the film better. I just adore Kristen Wigg, and as much as I loke in comedies it was truly spectacular seeing her step into a villainous role and she does it will flying colors. The only thing I didn’t like about her character was the CGI when she transforms into the Cheetah. It didn’t really look like Wigg and it was like they had someone else step in to play her. And we can’t forget about Pedro Pascal as Max Lord, who just kills it. Wonder Woman 1984 is defiantly a much lighter follow-up compared to the first film, but it was just as brilliant.

Now, the action sequences are pretty intense. From the opening sequence and the central set pieces to the epic final showdown, this film keeps the action going without deviating from the plot and character developments. The story is pretty easy to follow, which helps make it easier to invest in the movie. Plus you are not gonna wanna miss the end credit scene. 

Overall, Wonder Woman 1984 was pretty extraordinary and despite numerous delays, it made the holidays something to look forward to. You can see the movie in theaters, where they are open, and on HBO Max so go on and enjoy.
