The Woman in the Window Review: Amy Adams stars in a surprisingly fun thriller

Amy Adams stars in a new psychological thriller that is surprisingly fun and will keep you guessing till the very end.

Agoraphobic Dr. Anna Fox witnesses something she shouldn’t while keeping tabs on the Russell family, the seemingly picture-perfect clan that lives across the way.

After many delays in production due to reshoots, then getting reshuffled due to the current pandemic, The Woman in the Window is now streaming as a Netflix Original film. Based on the bestselling novel by A.J. Finn, the film is a homage to Hitchcock’s Rear Window and other paranoid thrillers from days past, the film even has Amy Adam’s character watch many of these classics from the comfort of her couch.

The new movie does a pretty good job at portraying agoraphobia in a way that feels like someone did the proper research. Director Joe Wright seems like he has a grasp of what he is trying to accomplish here, making for an entertaining movie. I just adore Amy Adams and never miss a chance to see one of her films. Adams is fantastic as Anna, making her sad and pathetic while also being engaging and relatable.

The supporting cast is perfect, especially the amazing Julianne Moore, who I wished had a little more screen time, and Wyatt Russell as the friendly, yet frazzled tenant. Gary Oldman is kind of over-the-top but the roll calls for it, and he and Wright know just how far to take it. I must point out that while superhero crossovers are to be expected nowadays when you watch this movie you will laugh at the fact that Lois Lane married one Captain American and is letting another one live at her house unless you aren’t as much of a geek as I am.

The Woman in the Window does the job it sets out to do, and it’s made with enough skill to be worth watching at least once. It’s not a true classic at all, but it’s better than some of the stuff we have gotten lately. I wish it had released in theaters first because there would be something beautifully poetic about leaving the house to see it.
