Movie Review: Godzilla vs Kong

Godzilla vs Kong is a jaw-dropping spectacle of fire-breathing lizards and giant, ax-wielding monkeys throwing each other against buildings, and the fourth installment in Warner Bros. epic monsterverse franchise.

Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home. Along for the ride is Jia, an orphaned girl who has a unique and powerful bond with the mighty beast. However, they soon find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla as he cuts a swath of destruction across the globe. The initial confrontation between the two titans — instigated by unseen forces — is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the planet.

Warner Bros. had been on a roll lately releasing their films both in theaters and on HBO Max. They already delivered one of the most anticipated (and longest) films with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and now they have gifted us with another visually stunning, heart-stopping, epic action blockbuster with Godzilla vs Kong. It’s no secret that the film centers around the epic battle between the two titans, and the end result is a massively entertaining film that reminds us why we love going to the movies.

The film has its share of decent human characters, and they don’t overshadow or take up the entire plot. The visuals are so stunning that you can pause at pretty much any moment and have a beautiful wallpaper for your phone and/or computer. The film moves pretty quickly and keeps the action going nonstop making the destruction scenes are cool as they can be. Director Adam Wingard has done a tremendous job bring this film to life and delivers what fans who want to escape to the cinemas truly desire from their movies.

The action is intense and nonstop, especially during the final battle where viewers could just imagine the roar of applause it would receive in a packed movie theater. The musical score complements the sequences, and the visual effects are awesome. It will most likely make viewers want to watch the movie all over again. I found that you don’t really need to watch 2014’s Godzilla, 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, or 2019’s Godzilla: King of Monsters to understand this film’s plot. However, it will make you want to revisit those movies.

Overall, the story is fairly simple, and the film’s success in delivering an epic, all-out action flick is a true reminder that the cinema is first and foremost an escapist experience, and films that do their job justice are more easily received by the majority of viewers.
